Our Programs

G.R.I.T. offers a home and community based education program for preschool children who are Program Unit Fund eligible. The needs of the child and family help to determine the components of each child’s Individual Program Plan. G.R.I.T. is designed to offer an educational alternative to parents who wish to be actively involved in their child’s education. The home can be a highly effective educational setting for young children. It can be particularly desirable for children who are immune compromised or medically fragile.

In addition, the G.R.I.T. program is able to support children in their community preschool. With the support of a Developmental Specialist (D.S) together with regular opportunities for consultation from Special Education Consultants and appropriate therapy teams, these community preschool programs can offer tremendous opportunities for preparing children for school.

Opportunities for field trips and community outings occur several times in the school year allowing for first hand experiences that are so beneficial to the learning process.

Also available are a variety of specialized activities to augment the children’s program when they would benefit from these types of supports. These are center based activities that occur at the G.R.I.T. office.

The G.R.I.T. program provides a Developmental Specialist (D.S.) to work individually with the child 2-3 hours a day, three to five days per week depending on the needs of the child and family and guidelines set out by Alberta Education.

The Developmental Specialist carries out the program plans that have been developed for the child by the parents and G.R.I.T. education/therapy team. This provides consistency and a unified approach (family and G.R.I.T. team) towards supporting the child’s learning and achievement of priority goals.
